Acupuncture is the insertion of small-gauge sterile needles into one or more acupuncture points located along the many energy meridians of the body. Acupuncture originated in China over four thousand years ago and is one of the oldest forms of healing known to mankind. The basic premise of acupuncture is to balance the vital energy (known as Qi) in the body to promote wellness. In addition to regular acupuncture, the following services and techniques are offered. SERVICES: Electroacupuncture Acupuncture needles are attached to a device that generates continuous electric pulses. This modality can be used for a variety of health conditions, but is especially effective for reducing pain and muscle spasms. Cupping Involves creating a vacuum through air (heated by fire) in a glass cup placed against the skin. It can be used to treat respiratory conditions as well as break up scar tissue and adhesions commonly associated with musculoskeletal conditions. Auricular (ear acupuncture) Acupuncture needles are inserted on points on the outer surface of the ear. Commonly used to treat addictions. Utilized for smoking cessation, weight loss and stress. Moxibustion This therapy utilizes moxa, or mugwort herb. It is used to warm regions and acupuncture points and to simulate circulation through those points. It is commonly used to treat various pain syndromes.
